At 5:45 p.m. (CST), West Hansen and Jeff Wueste took off from Houston Intercontinental on a direct flight to Moscow. It is an 11 hour flight and Russia is 9 hours ahead of us. I believe they are set to land just after 4:00 p.m. Saturday. Wowzers!! Makes me tired just thinking of it. I, as expedition manager and communication director and, best of all, West's sister will be keeping everyone updated on their whereabouts. As with the Amazon Express Expedition (theamazonexpress.org), the team will check in with me each day, give me highlights and updates and I will blog about them for all that are interested in following along.
West and Jeff learned alot about what "works" on an expedition and what doesn't. On the plane, West and Jeff carried all the food (dried-just add water), proten (Epic bars), Spiz (and Spaz--their creation), camping gear, and other supplies with them. The 18-foot Epic-donated boats were loaded like luggage right onto the plane. They will carry everything with them and will go without a support team running the banks. I'm sure they will make friends along the way and experience events that some of us will only dream about.
